Job Summary

USG is now accepting applications for a GLS Reader Advisor position with the Georgia Library Service (GLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled under the auspices of the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS). GPLS proes administrative support to Georgia¿s public libraries; develops and implements statee policies, procedures, and programs; and encourages reading, literacy and education through the continuing support and improvement of Georgia¿s public libraries. Under their umbrella, GLS, the Georgia arm of the National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled serves all eligible patrons through audiobook, braille, and other alternative media formats who experience permanent or temporary vision or physical impairment and are unable to see or hold standard print books.

Under general supervision, Reader Advisors proe a e range of patron-focused services including but not limited to: the dissemination of information and various materials, advice on choosing titles to read (reader s advisory services), circulation, shelving, maintenance of books and materials, and assistive technology gance.

Responsibilities
  • Proe reader advisory services to patrons virtually, by phone and/or in person
  • Prepare subject specific bibliographies for patrons and patron groups such as book clubs
  • Assist in promotion of library services by preparing articles for newsletters, online content, creating bulletin boards, library displays and other materials that promote and enhance program
  • Staff the information desk at GLS-Atlanta on a rotating basis
  • Assist patrons using various assistive technology software and equipment
  • Proe technical support for talking book players, BARD and any NLS-related emerging technologies
  • Assist with the maintenance of various databases and departmental records, as needed
  • Assist with collection development activities, as needed
  • Proe information about the library to patrons, service proers, and other stakeholders
  • Proe referrals to patrons about other agencies that offer services to people with disabilities
  • Represent the library at conferences, workshops, andmittees
  • Assist with the planning and execution of library programs and events

Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor s degree required with two years of related experience, or an equivalentbination of education and experience. A basic understanding ofputer operating software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, various cloud-based services, and Andr and/or iOS devices is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Status as a GLS patron or previous experience working with people with print disabilities is a plus. Equipment may be proed at interview for canate to demonstrate proficiency in using assistive technology.
