As a member of the Research Administration Systems & Data team within the Office of Research Administration, the Analyst will work with the Associate Director, Research Administration Data and Systems to develop, implement, resource, and support the information systems, technology, and data needs of the office; they will also work with all members of the office to provide training and support in using the information systems within the office. Ideally, the Analyst comes to the role with a range of skill sets including software engineering, database maintenance, user hardware and software tech support, and administrative skills. This role will support overall management of the research administration data and systems infrastructure as it relates to the Office including application development, forms support, web support, user tech support, analytics and reporting, database management, data integration, and data stewardship. Responsibilities: Research Information Systems & Applications Development & Support
  • Supports the design, implementation, maintenance, and extension of university-wide research administration data management projects; works with users to define business needs and gather requirements; manages projects, as assigned.
  • Develops custom databases and forms applications used to collect, maintain, and leverage information for pre-award and compliance functions and staff.
  • Documents data and functional specifications for ORA systems; provides and establishes standard program data management processes and tools; maintains ORA software systems.
  • Supports the development of reports and dashboards, analytical datasets, data feeds, and other types of data outputs in response to requests and needs from ORA staff, departmental research administrators, PIs, and Sponsored Programs Accounting, ITS staff, and senior University leadership.
  • Coordinates and maintains ORA department files including oversight of data entry, data organization and storage, and archives.
  • Acts as the frontline of technical support for hardware and software issues for the ORA and ORA staff; perform system setups, software installation and updates, network connectivity; liaisons to ITS as needed.
  • Acts as primary point of contact for routine administrative tasks related to data and systems management including inventory tracking and management, service subscriptions, other tasks, as assigned.
  • Supports the integration of research administration data with Institutional Research, Sponsored Programs Accounting, ITS, and other University business and academic units.
Research Administration Training & Communications
  • Assists in the design, development, and delivery of various ORA training initiatives for appropriate faculty, staff and students.
  • Develops and provides training to staff on use of ORA systems and tools.
  • Maintains and assists in the development of various ORA communication/outreach mechanisms (e.g., website, listserv(s), mailing lists, and internal data management mechanisms); provides office communications support.
  • Provide assistance in the operations of one or more research compliance committees or other office functions (e.g., IRB, IACUC, IBC, FCOI, postdoc/courtesy appointment process), as needed.
  • All other duties, as assigned.
Education & Work Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree required, masters degree preferred.
  • 1-3+ years work-related experience.

  • Some understanding of principles of data management; database development; web development and web development tools.
  • Skilled in data analysis and manipulation using tools such as Excel, Claris, FileMaker Pro, Adobe Acrobat, R, SQL, and/or Python. It is not necessary to know all such tools, but rather the ability and interest in constantly learning, using, and applying new knowledge.
  • Training in principles and practice of software engineering and some knowledge of research administration and compliance concepts and business processes and familiarity with the functions of a university is desirable.
