QUESTIONS
The City of Wasilla is currently recruiting a Museum Helper for the Wasilla Museum and Visitor Center. As the Museum Helper, you will perform daily, hands-on duties and responsibilities associated with the Wasilla Museum and Visitor Center and the Historic Town Site. Every day, you will be expected to open and close the museum as needed, help in the shop by selling merchandise, perform general receptionist duties, and assist customers and visitors in the Mat-Su Valley. The Museum Helper works under the general supervision of the Museum Curator or designee.
This is a non-exempt, part-time temporary position without benefits. This position will not exceed 89 days or 20 hours in a workweek on a regular basis. The schedule will be Tuesday to Friday 10 am to 3 pm.
Essential Duties- Assist in orienting visitors to the museum and the Mat-Su Valley.
- Collect monies for admission tickets and merchandise using Point of Sale System
- Perform general receptionist duties to include email and phone calls.
- Provide daily accounting reports of visitors and sales.
- Assist with creating and executing guided tours, specifically school and civic group tours.
- Assist Museum Aide and Museum Curator with museum store.
- Reorder and restock visitor brochures and other information.
- Update and maintain Museum Visitor information.
- Assist with creating flyers, brochures and other museum documents as assigned.
- Perform light custodial duties in the museum and town site with knowledge of proper care for artifacts and historic preservation.
- Assist with data input in the Past Perfect artifact database and labeling artifacts as needed.
- Assist with research, production, installation and deinstallation of exhibits as needed.
- Work with museum volunteers.
- Assist with museum special events, planning, preparing, and executing.
- Open and close museum as needed.
- Drive to various locations to hang event flyers.
- Perform cleaning and disinfecting of bathrooms, front desk, museum shop and other public areas in the museum daily with proper training.
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly and concisely both in oral and written communications.
- Ability to work with staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Knowledge of the local area and Alaska.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to operate general office equipment to include but not limited to computers, printers, cash register, credit card machine, fax and copy machines.
- High school graduate, GED or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid State of Alaska Drivers License and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
