Pay Grade/Pay Range: 56 Monthly (exempt): – Minimum – $ 31,003.60 Midpoint – $ 45,302.40

Department/Organization: 214131 – Eng Student Services – Stud Support

Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I is an entry level advising position. Under direct supervision, the Advisor I will be engaged in academic advising activities that support UA at the institution or college level.

Additional Department Summary: This position will work with a team of academic advisors to guide students through the educational process here at the Capstone. The Academic Advisor I is expected to use appropriate advising practices/theories while working with students to foster academic success. Advise students in course and major selection by communicating general education, College of Engineering, and major requirements. Communicate accurate and timely information and clarify University policies and procedures. Present and assist with a new student and transfer orientation sessions. Create an environment where students are encouraged to learn, grow, and utilize institutional resources. Seek opportunities to learn about the advising profession and contribute to the College of Engineering Advising Team and The University of Alabama.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and some experience. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered.

Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of academic advising and best practices. Ability to work with a diverse population. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management. Good planning, coordinating, and organizational skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience with DegreeWorks and Banner are highly desired.
