Salary Range – $75,000 – $85,000

We are expanding our accounting team! Dawson Logistics is seeking someone with a strong accounting background for our Controller position.

The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company and is responsible for overseeing financial statements including balance sheets, invoices, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions.
• Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
• Implement consistent accounting policies, practices and procedures.
• Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures and workflows.
• Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
• Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, and reporting on monthly and annual basis.
• Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement.
• Evaluate accounting and internal control systems.
• Develop and monitor business performance metrics.
• Maintain chart of accounts and an orderly accounting filing system.
• Help develop short- and long-term operational strategies.
• Coordinate activities for audits.
• Oversee and support accounting team with leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.

Transactions

• Ensure accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and reasonable discounts taken.
• Ensure accounts receivable are collected promptly.
• Ensure bank reconciliations are completed.

Reporting

• Issue timely and complete financial statements.
• Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of the company.
• Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
• Provide financial analyses as needed for capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations.

Compliance

• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
• Oversee regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an emphasis in accounting or related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Experience

• Five to ten years accounting experience.
• Previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor or manager.
• Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software including Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles.
