Job Description

If so, the Iowa Department of Transportation has the right position for you! The Davenport Driver’s License Station is looking for a new member to join its team! As a Driver’s License Consultant, you’ll be responsible for issuing licenses or IDs, administering drive tests, and answering questions about driving records and eligibility. You will be a customer service expert in Driver and Identification Services. We have many modems to help customers. You must be comfortable with them all. Our Driver’s License Consultant will:

  • Ensure each driver is capable of safely operating the vehicle for which they are licensed
  • Administer and score motorcycle skills, car, truck, passenger and CDL pre-trip, skills and road driving examinations.
  • Become a subject matter expert on driver’s license eligibility and licensing requirements as well as identification requirements based on the federal REAL ID standards
  • Administer special reexaminations (written, driving, or visual)
  • Assists supervisor with trainings
  • Acts as a team lead

Shift: Monday- Friday 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM; occasional in-state travel should be expected to report to various locations for testing.

Work Conditions:
When administering drive tests, you’ll be exposed to all weather elements for an extended period of time.

Special Requirements:

  • Before Hire: Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted, except for corrective lenses, driver’s license (minimum of an operator’s license) and must pass federal and local name based and fingerprint criminal history background checks.
  • After Hire: Must obtain and maintain required American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrator certifications, must attend a Motorcycle Rider Education Safety course, and attend department training sessions as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification: 1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. 2) Four years of full-time work experience in public administration (e.g., public sector clerical or managerial work, program oversight, strategic planning, auditing, or law enforcement). 3) A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number two), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience. 4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to two years of full-time work within the Motor Vehicle Division of the Iowa Department of Transportation.
