OVERVIEWThe Linguist performs quality control and on-demand translation tasks, takes on linguistic lead functions on assigned projects, coordinates activities of a group of translators for specific accounts or projects, trains and develops freelancers, and ensures high standards of work within deadlines and quality parameters. They also ensure adherence to the Language Process by the project/team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform copy-edit tasks on assigned projects or accounts
- Perform on-demand translation tasks
- Lead functions on assigned accounts
- Own deliveries translated internally or by freelancers for one or more accounts in the target language
- Prepare, manage, and maintain language materials (glossaries, Style Guides, work instructions) to meet quality standards and stay updated
- Manage project-related queries
- Foster good interaction among team members and resolve terminology and language questions
- Coordinate a team of freelancers on assigned projects or accounts
- Test and qualify new freelancers and vendors as needed
- Develop and train internal linguists and freelancers according to account and company needs
- Interact with clients on linguistic matters as required
- Contribute to developing improved working processes
- Meet or exceed productivity KPIs
- Achieve goals set by the PEM
- Education
- University degree in Translation/Applied Languages or equivalent experience
- 4+ years relevant translation/localization experience
- Ability to work during US PST hours
- Experience
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Native fluency in Dutch
- Thorough understanding of localization processes
- Proficient with standard software (Windows, Office)
- Proficient with TMS and CAT tools (XTM, SDL Studio) and query management tools (JIRA)
- Quick learner of new localization tools
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of terminology in multiple subject areas
- Subject-matter expert within the company for discipline or process
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Ability to give clear, constructive feedback
- Coordination skills for internal and external translators
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Effective presentation and communication skills
- Ability to interpret various instructions
- Willingness to train and pass on knowledge
- Effective communication with customers at various levels
