Overview: We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) based in South America who can lead engineering initiatives and deliver results. This role involves collaboration with Product and Design teams to build high-quality, personalized learning experiences. Engineers at Varsity Tutors actively participate in system design and decision-making processes that impact our customers. This is a full-time, remote contractor position.

Responsibilities:
- Design and develop ML solutions involving large-scale data processing.
- Define requirements, create software designs, implement code, and support deployed products.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Data Scientists to develop and deploy ML solutions.
- Develop ML workflows and end-to-end pipelines for data preparation, training, deployment, and monitoring.
- Ensure the quality and architecture of ML systems and data infrastructure.
- Create data-driven feedback loops and real-time decision-making frameworks to enhance customer experience.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build, testing, and operations.
- Experience with Apache Spark and Amazon AWS services (SageMaker, Redshift, EMR, Glue, Step Functions, Lambda, Batch).
- 5+ years of experience in system design, architecture, scalability, and reliability.
- Experience leading engineering teams or serving as a tech lead or mentor.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with deep learning libraries/techniques in NLU and reinforcement learning is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of object-oriented design, algorithms, and data structures.
- Ability to quickly learn new languages and technologies.
- Computer Science or related degree preferred.
