The opportunity we have available

We are seeking a high performing Executive Level 2 to fill the role of Director, IOT Government Arrangements Section (the Section), located in the Perth Office. The position leads the section responsible for managing Service Delivery Arrangements with the Western Australian Government for services provided to Christmas Island (CI) and Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI), in addition to a range of other key relationships, including with the AFP. This is a challenging role and the successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to negotiate and lead the provision of high-quality state-type services to small, remote communities. The Section also supports and informs policy development and legislative matters for CI and CKI. The Director plays a key role in providing informed advice to the Senior Executive, Administrator of IOTs, and Minister. The work is diverse, fast paced and involves engagement across the department, WA and Australian governments, and the IOT community.

The Director position is based in Perth and may be required to occasionally travel for work to Canberra, CI and the CKI.

What will you do?

Working under the broad direction of the relevant Assistant Secretary you will be responsible for leading a team to manage the delivery of state-type services to the IOT, through agreements with the WA Government and other agencies. This will include:

  • researching, analysing and providing advice on a range of issues impacting communities in the IOT;
  • developing and maintaining productive working relationships with a wide array of stakeholders;
  • providing leadership and managing staff and resources effectively to achieve outcomes;
  • leading and promoting quality decision making consistent with approved delegations;
  • providing briefings on service delivery matters, staffing, expenditure, and parliamentary and corporate coordination activities.

Eligibility

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

  • Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen. 
  • Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider.
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Vetting Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.  You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
