Who we are The People, Property and Security Division works in partnership to deliver strategic and operational workforce services that enable and enhance organisational capability. The division provides stewardship, support and services across integrity; conduct; property; fraud and corruption; security; performance management; rehabilitation management; recruitment; learning and development; inclusion and diversity; workforce planning and analytics; workplace relations; people support; culture and health, safety and wellbeing.

The People and Policy Branch are the front line of human resources (HR) for the department. We deliver timely and accurate responses to various client groups and support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusting relationships with employees and business areas. We offer general and specialist HR advice and case management services for issues related to workplace relations, performance, probation, attendance, behaviour and workplace rehabilitation. The branch also includes a dedicated team that support our Senior Executive Service (SES) cohort and overseas deployments.

As part of the People Support Section, you'll be at the forefront of our HR efforts, providing essential support and building trusted relationships nationwide. 

The key duties of the position include:

The JobThe duties will include but not limited to the following: 

  • Advise Employees: Provide evidence-based HR advice within an APS context. 
  • Problem-Solve: Independently find solutions and escalate complex matters.
  • Develop Policies: Assist in creating and maintaining HR policies and procedures.
  • Build Relationships: Maintain working relationships across all organisational levels.
  • Improve Processes: Implement work process improvements to meet service standards.
  • Support Audits: Collate data for corporate audits and government surveys. 
  • Administrative Support: Maintain HR records in line with agency protocols.
Eligibility

What we are looking forKnowledge and experience

  • Experience working in a fast-paced role in a government context. 
  • Proven experience in the provision of high-quality HR advice and support across a diverse organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience applying the employment framework and relevant legislation, including but not limited to the Public Service Act 1999, Fair Work Act 2009 and Privacy Act 1988.
