Job Summary

Battelle's Integrated Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Defense Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position to develop, evaluate, and implement materials, devices, and techniques to evaluate detection canines versus various hazards. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. Significant domestic travel is anticipated. This is an in person position.

Battelle is seeking a motivated individual to support the design, planning, and execution of field studies and related laboratory efforts focused on understanding and advancing detection canine teams. This position will involve working hands-on with a dynamic group of engineers, scientists, geneticists, and canine trainers/handlers to evaluate team performance, identify and develop novel tools/solutions, and conduct fundamental research. Candidates will also initiate/lead data mining and analysis, report development, presentation preparation, literature reviews, and client meetings. Candidates must have previous experience working with detection canines, explosives, field test environments, and method development.

Responsibilities

• Performs assignments by compiling and evaluating test data and planning test experiments, including: determination of test procedures, limits, and instrumentation.
• Analyzes test data and results to determine acceptability or application of test item/system or validity of test data.
• Interprets results and writes components of technical reports.
• Troubleshoots the testing process when expected results are not obtained.
• Recommends paths forward to resolve analysis problems.
• Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
• Interacts primarily with internal clients.
• Modifies existing processes or testing methods to improve quality or efficiency.
• May support business development efforts led by others.
• Assist in training new hire technical staff.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• >2 years of experience performing detection canine evaluations
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Data management experience and Excel knowledge.
• Proven ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to consistently follow test protocols in a wide variety of field test environments, under continuous scrutiny from a variety of observers.
• Sole US citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment.
• Sufficient medical fitness to work in the laboratory and in the field to perform assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with explosives/energetic materials.
• Previous experience with field study performance
