The Area Coordinator (AC) position at Texas Christian University (TCU) is a full-time (12-month), live-on professional position. This position is responsible for administering a comprehensive residence life program focused on empowering students to develop authentic relationships and inclusive communities within an exceptional residential experience. The AC will be a part of establishing goals and objectives for the department, and will also lead a team of Hall Directors as they oversee their residence hall community. The AC position requires positivity, enthusiasm, strong work ethic, a desire to be a part of the campus community, and initiative while working collaboratively with others in the department and in the Division of Student Affairs. Evening and weekend hours are required. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life (ADs).
Duties & Essential Job Functions:1. Implements tenets of the Knowing, Connecting, Empowering model, which is focused on intentionally building relationships and cultivating a strong sense of community within the residence halls. 2. Provides supervision to a Hall Director team, which includes developing strong working relationships, advisement on community development, assisting with community development/KCE initiatives, evaluating staff performance. 3. Encourages HDs and RAs to implement programming that fosters awareness of personal endeavors, academic pursuits, community wellness, civic engagement, and diversity, inclusion and equity. 4. Promotes an atmosphere that emphasizes TCU's mission and values. 5. Builds relationships with students in a residential area to contribute to community building of HD and RA staff. 6. Attends staff meetings with other HDs and the Housing and Residence Life Leadership Team. 7. Conducts weekly or biweekly meetings with individual Hall Directors. 8. Provide leadership and oversight to the Lead Desk Assistants and Assistant Hall Directors as they oversee desk operations and supervisor desk assistants. 9. Participates in and leads staff training for all residence hall personnel including HDs, Ras, Assistant Hall Directors, Desk Assistants, Lead Desk Assistants, Cultural Connectors, and Graduate Assistants. 10. Develops a sense of community among staff through staff development, leadership development, and personal/professional development. 11. Attends RA staff meetings and programs throughout the month for relationship development and increase support to RA teams. 12. Maintains daily office hours and offers a high degree of availability and visibility for all residents and staff members. 13. Leads Summer Camps and Conferences, Student Staff Selection, RA Training or another departmental functional area. 14. Assists with department wide and divisional programming, including move-in/move-out, room selection, room assignments, Star Rez utilization, student conduct process/Maxient use and others. 15. Supports COVID response efforts through serving on the Care Coordinator/Contact Tracing Team, assisting with meal delivery process or other care efforts. 16. Supports larger University initiatives (Frogs First, Monday@TCU, Experience TCU, Orientation, University programming, etc.) 17. Serves as liaison formally and informally with other departments in Student Affairs. 18. Actively participates in professional development events provided by the Division of Student Affairs and Housing and Residence Life. 19. Creates collaborative relationships with other departments and University personnel. 20. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:- Masters' degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership or related field.
- 2 years of related experience in a training or development environment with supervisory experience and
- 2 years of professional experience in higher education
- 2 years of professional experience in housing and residence life
- TCU requires applicant to live on campus in a designated residence hall. Human Resources must complete a background check on the selected candidate and spouse.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
