Description:

Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 depending on experience

Full-time Exempt Level Position

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Director of Special Events will use their knowledge and skills in non-profit fundraising to lead several high-profile fundraising and donor events for the school.

This person will take a strong leadership role in one of the school's main fundraisers, Decorator Showcase, a premier design event, which to date has raised over $19M for the Financial Aid Program. They are responsible for leading community and design events, which range from relationship-building volunteer kick-off meetings to large, sophisticated galas. Through creativity, strong organization, relationship building, and volunteer engagement, the Director of Special Events will collaborate with volunteer co-chairs to run work streams and raise money for the Financial Aid Program. They will oversee the 300-member volunteer committee, supported by 25 Co-Chairs and Committee Chairs. They will also lead additional donor-related events, including the annual fund recognition dinner and reception and regular donor events. This position offers someone a fantastic opportunity to implement and creatively grow donor cultivation and stewardship through events. This position requires excellent attention to detail, demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and customer service skills. The position requires some evening and weekend work.

Education/Experience: This position requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience. Experience with Google Suite is required. Experience with Raiser's Edge is a plus.

Requirements:
  • Develop, manage, and implement an annual events strategy to support fundraising that includes recurring, cyclical, and special events focused on engagement, cultivation, recognition, and stewardship.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the creation, development, and execution of events.
  • Produce high-quality, engaging, creative experiences that are based on best practices for event management. Appropriately scope out project tasks/team assignments, create work plans and schedules, monitor progress, and meet milestones.
  • Ensure a flawless event experience for all guests, speakers, and volunteers from start to finish. Oversee registration strategy and logistics. Recruit and prepare speakers, draft briefings and scripts, and assist with event collateral. Develop program metrics to measure attendee satisfaction.
  • Analyze successes and failures and implement improvements; marshal resources to accomplish goals.
  • Be a good steward of financial and people resources. Work cross-departmentally to prepare and manage complex program budgets. Recommend and schedule events into appropriate off-campus and on-campus venues. Recruit and oversee volunteers and contingent event staff, when applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners, including central development events staff, vendors, parents, alumni, students, volunteers, and interior designers. Act as department representative at cross-departmental project meetings.
  • Attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to explain complex ideas.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
