OVERVIEW This position is located in the National Air and Space Museum (NASM), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The NASM is a center for research into the history and science of aviation and spaceflight, as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics. Over 9 million people per year visit the NASM in the National Mall Building and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (UHC) in Chantilly, Virginia. The Museum is comprised of six major departments headed by an executive team. There are approximately 280 full-time employees and 90 part-time employees. The annual operating budget is approximately 35 million dollars, plus an additional $250 million being raised to support Transformation efforts to reimagine all display and common areas in the National Air and Space Museum in the National Mall Building. The incumbent serves as
Parking Operations Manager and is responsible for managing parking operations for the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (UHC), National Air & Space Museum (NASM). Work performed by the incumbent exceeds general administrative duties and more related to program operations given that the facility requires funding, maintenance, planning, auditing, and resource management to maintain operation. This facility allows for visitors to arrive in a location that is near the UHC and park their vehicle or other mode of transportation. The parking facility utilizes current and developing technologies to track visitor numbers, automate entry and access points, record financial transactions and receipts, and manage vehicle placement/movements. The work effects efficiency and responsiveness in parking operations allowing for visitors and personnel to easily and safely visit the UHC to view exhibits and artifacts that preserve the nation's history of space flight and aeronautics. The position serves as a first responder to issues with facilities equipment, safety, and security; customer complaints; processing of financial receipts; and projects that improve the facilities infrastructure.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MANAGEMENT
- Oversees the acquisition and procurement of services that maintain the operations, scalability, and continuity of operations for institutional parking facilities.
- Manages, executes, and tracks the allocation of financial resources used to clean, repair, maintain, and manage parking facilities and grounds.
- Accounts for revenue generated through parking transactions and visitor services; utilizes integrated parking and financial systems to accurately track income generated and report current and forecasted earnings.
- Audits parking system for discrepancies in tickets dispersed in contrast to revenues generated from point of sale, sufficient to bring awareness to deviations in revenues generated; routine issues with system performance; or violations in employee or visitor actions while in the facility.
- Responsible for managing all aspects of loss prevention related to parking operations. Adheres to SOPs for cash handling and inventory control. Performs daily cash control operations/audits in accordance with Business Operations SOPs.
- Ensures proper business unit opening and closing requirements, sufficient to provide daily sales audit; develop and submit reports related to incident management (i.e. car accidents, acts of criminality, vandalism, theft) committed during or after operations.
- Accesses, reviews, and retrieves data from parking management systems and financial management systems to analyze data, develop metrics, and provide reporting.
- Serves as systems administrator for parking technologies and troubleshoots routine issues impacting functionality, but documents and elevates technical issues that are more persistent and impede operations.
- Provides various levels of communication to institutional leadership concerning parking operations; discusses projects; logistical plans for managing surges in attendance; and improved techniques for implementation that can bring greater efficiency to parking operations and management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Knowledge required by the position:
- Practical understanding of procedures required to manage personnel, financial resources, and technologies to maintain operations.
- Knowledge, in planning and executing operational requirements that contribute to the proper function of business operations; sufficient to develop a technical understanding of multiple processes and procedures ensuring their proper application.
- Skill, in the management of technology systems sufficient to execute various administrative requirements to provide oversight and reporting into operations.
- Skill, interfacing with the public and other personnel concerning the facility to address issues or provide guidance.
- Ability, to coordinate the resolution of routine issues or problems effecting business operations; personnel; and technologies used to support organizational facilities.
- Ability, to audit or inspect physical administrative and financial records ensuring their accuracy and reconciliation with system records and transactions.
- Ability, to manage personnel and operational resources providing immediate response and resolution to issues or incidents as they occur improving business operations.
- Ability to communicate verbally or written technical information and presentation for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences and highlight important concepts with the use of charts, tables, and illustrations.
