What you'll be doing...   

Verizon is looking to hire a senior manager responsible for engaging government officials and community stakeholders on the company's behalf in Georgia and Alabama. This role will provide advocacy for the company at the local level as well as manage community affairs.  

Responsibilities of the job include: 

  • Developing and implementing the company's local government and community affairs strategy in support of Verizon's goals with a focus on addressing issues involving network deployment and broadband. 

  • Representing Verizon with local government in metro Atlanta and throughout Georgia and Alabama, while also partnering with state and federal officials and local community leaders, as needed, to advance the goals of the business. 

  • Strengthening Verizon's impact, brand, and reputation through strategic community engagement and advocacy. 

  • Developing strong relationships with mayors, city council members, county commissioners, and other local government officials and staff for the purpose of growing Verizon's local impact. 

  • Managing local legislative, policy, and political activities and keeping management informed of local issues, while partnering with Verizon's policy teams as needed to ensure that any local legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company.  

  • Implementing a strategic plan to partner with the industry, community-based organizations, business and trade associations and other third-parties in support of the company's goals.

  • Providing direction, creating, and communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders. 

  • Representing Verizon in the community including public speaking at events as well as government hearings and meetings 

  • Ensuring compliance with all lobbying rules and regulations.  

What we're looking for… 

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of relevant experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and / or military experience, or specialized training.  

  • Experience in public policy, regulatory, or government affairs. 

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the local level.

  • Strong network of contacts with government officials and community leaders in Georgia and Alabama including metro Atlanta. 

  • Willingness to travel as needed. 

  • Ability to travel within territory in personally owned vehicle. 

  • Ability to work both during normal business hours as well as evenings and weekends should the circumstances require availability. 

Even better if you have the following:

  • Experience working in federal, state, or local government. 

  • Experience with coalition building and working with industry partners and community-based organizations.

  • Strong advocacy, negotiation and communications skills, both verbal and written.

  • Proven ability to navigate complex problems, build consensus, and collaborate on mutually beneficial solutions. 

  • Strong planning and organizational skills. 

  • Unwavering commitment to ethics and legal compliance.

  • Experience managing lobbyists or working for a lobbying or law firm with a lobbying practice. 

  • Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity. 

  • Knowledge of public policy issues in the communications, cable, or utilities industries.

  • Knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory.
